Fair Isle long scarf
machine-knit pattern pdf download (english)
Fair Isle knitting’s uniqueness lies in the fact that the motifs never repeat. They can have the same number of rows, but there is always something unique and different to each of them. Another key aspect of Fair Isle knitting is symmetry, this scarf is designed with this in mind, the motifs repeat in order for the scarf to be symmetrical.
This wonderfully long scarf is a bit of a Fair Isle statement, displaying the traditional patterns while keeping you extra warm. The ribbed edges ensure that it drapes well at all times. The scarf is knitted in two halves, which are then grafted together. This is so the stitch directions are the same on both halves. One half is slightly longer with one more pattern repeat lengthwise, so the scarf is symmetrical on each side of that one middle pattern.
The possibilities for playing with colours are infinite. This knitting pattern will provide you with charts for a couple of traditional options : One in the famous bright Fair Isle colours with a slight “Marie twist” and one in the natural colours of Shetland sheep. It also includes charts for beginners’ colourways where only the foreground or background colour changes. You will also find two-tone charts for you to choose your own colours.
